Mission Statement

Elaine Summers’ Legacy Project began in 2015 shortly after Elaine’s death in December 2014. As an ongoing project it’s goal is to create a digital library of first-hand interviews and supporting materials with Elaine’s collaborators; artists, dancers, composers and musicians, playwrights and performance artists, video and film artists, and teachers of Kinetic Awareness.

Our goal is to research and uncover historical materials that illustrate the scope and innovation of Elaine’s creative work throughout her lifetime (1925 –2014). Some research is conducted within the Elaine Summers’ archive, held by the Jerome Robbins Dance Collection, at the Lincoln Center Library for the Performing Arts. Other materials are drawn from the archives of private collections of the collaborators.
